My name is Rosalind Breen. My home base is Toronto and I am interested in the idea of shared human experience, creating environments and resurrecting mythical archetypes. I make works with the intention to evoke nostalgia or cathartic experiences that can be shared. I incorporate reflective surfaces, video, and wet bodily elements such as oil paints or plasters into my works to implicate the viewer, summon shared memories which tickle different senses and reactions. I look to tell an overarching story of the underdog with themes of hope and optimism in the face of mundanity and adversity. The appeal to me to create a shared experience, to illuminate memories that bring people together in solidarity - creating new myth.
